Retirement of university professors
A special rule applies to university professors with regard to retirement. If the month in which a professor reaches the age limit falls during the lecture period, he or she retires at the end of the last month of the lecture period, in deviation from the standard retirement age.
In this context, questions regularly arise that are answered by the following guidelines. These guidelines are intended as an aid and contain the most important aspects of civil servant and higher education law. They do not claim to be exhaustive.
Postponing retirement
Section 32(1) of the NRW Civil Service Act (LBG NRW) allows retirement to be postponed by up to three years on application, but not beyond the end of the month in which the
70th birthday is reached. age is reached.
In addition to the requirements of Section 32 LBG NRW, the guideline on postponing retirement for professors with civil servant status applies.
