Research and practical semester
Professors in grades W2 and W3 can be released from their teaching and administration duties. The legal basis is § 40 HG.
Definition of research semester
During a research semester, a professor can be released from teaching and administration duties in favour of research duties.
Definition of practical semester off
In the context of a practical semester, the leave of absence can be granted for the purpose of applying and testing scientific knowledge and methods in professional practice and to gain practical professional experience outside the university.
Semesters off are only granted for the duration of one semester.
Prerequisites
At least eight semesters of teaching as a professor must have been completed. The semester of leave must be followed by four semesters of lectures before retirement. The proper representation of the subject in teaching must be ensured during this time. The university should not incur any additional costs as a result of the leave of absence.
Application procedure
To apply for the research or internship semester, please use the application form provided.
Please send the application with your digital signature to the responsible dean. The Dean's office will send the application in digital form to the following email address: Dez4_2@zv.uni-paderborn.de.
Applications for lecture-free research or internship semesters will only be granted if the report on the last leave of absence is available.
Reports
Reports on lecture-free research or internship semesters must be submitted to the President after completion of the research or internship semester. They will be added to the personnel file.
