InRegioFIT: FIT in the Tutorial
Tutors play a central role in everyday student life: they explain complex content, answer questions, accompany exercises and are often the first point of contact for students. Particularly in tutorials with international students, linguistic and communicative challenges arise that can influence the process and learning.
The InRegioFIT: FIT-im-Tutorium counselling offers a supportive, practice-oriented exchange space to gain confidence in the tutorial, to explain subject-specific content in a comprehensible way and to handle typical communication situations with confidence.
The FIT-in-tutorial counselling gives tutors
- The opportunity for an open, collegial exchange on specific situations from everyday tutorial work
- Practical tips for explaining technical content and terminology in an understandable way
- Support in the clear formulation of tasks, expectations and instructions
- A space for reflection to discuss typical questions, misunderstandings and challenging situations
- Suggestions for small, directly realisable adjustments that structure and relieve the tutorial
The aim on offer is to strengthen tutors in their role, to facilitate communication with international and heterogeneous student groups and to support a well-structured tutorial that is conducive to learning.
Target group - Tutors
The programme is aimed at student tutors from all subjects (but especially STEM subjects) who accompany exercises, tutorials or labs or provide subject-specific support to students. The programme is aimed at tutors who work with international students and would like to develop their communication and guidance in tutorials.
Tutors with an institutional connection to the university can participate in the programme. The programme language is German; individual exchange formats can also be held in English if required.
Programme Schedule
The InRegioFIT counselling for tutors is designed as a flexible, demand-oriented offer and consists of individual exchange meetings or training sessions for several tutors at the same time. The first step is an initial individual meeting in which typical tutoring situations, questions and specific support needs are discussed together.
The next steps are then individually agreed on this basis. As a rule, at least three exchange meetings (online or in person) are planned; the number, duration and format depend on the respective concerns.
Possible programme modules include
- Individual exchange meetings on specific tutorial situations
- Feedback on tasks, exercise sheets or explanation strategies
- Observations in the tutorial with subsequent exchange (optional)
- Open discussion rounds on frequently asked questions and typical challenges
- Short workshops or inputs for several tutors from a department
Time Investment:
The time investment is manageable and flexible. The FIT-in-Tutorium counselling is designed in such a way that it can be easily integrated into everyday student life and does not require any additional preparation. Certificates of attendance can also be issued for participation in the counselling or the individual training courses.
