Higgledy-piggledy? Text revision for dissertation, paper, and co. (in English)

"I have some text ready - now what?" Academic writing rarely succeeds without a deep revision of existing sketches, drafts, and text fragments. More often than not, it is during this refining process that a text truly comes into being.

This interactive online workshop explores what "a good text" actually means, as every academic community and readership has its own expectations, and every author has unique ideas for their work. With brief theoretical inputs, a toolbox of text analysis strategies, and ample time for constructive peer feedback, we will address central questions of the revision process:

  • What is the goal and function of my text?
  • Which audience do I want to reach, and what are their expectations?
  • Which structure and argumentative flow will present my content in the best light?
  • How can I write clearly and concisely to get my arguments across?
  • How should my text sound, and which style fits my personal writing voice?

This workshop is aimed at researchers who have already produced text for an academic project (dissertation, paper, article, etc.) and are now looking for ¡°the thread¡± or ¡°Roter Faden¡±. Please bring your own drafts to the workshop (even early-stage ones) to analyze, discuss, and develop them further.
